Election Day in Seattle: I request the highest of fives.

Today was a glorious day.

This is what I have really looked like for the past four hours. My face hurts from smiling, and my arms are sore from me spontaneously throwing them up over my head every ten minutes.

In Washington, Gay Marriage has been legalized. That means many friends and family members of mine can marry whoever they want, and without oppressing anybody else's beliefs. Referendum 74 gives everyone the right to a civil marriage, promising Churches that while marriage may be legal for all couples, they don't have to perform ceremonies that they don't believe are right.

In other news, Obama, who supports equal rights for all couples, and has miraculously managed to pass legislation to fix our economy despite the GOP-dominated House of Representatives, has won. And it just keeps getting better. We've elected some really terrific men and women into the Senate and local government this year. There are so many things going right today. To celebrate it all, I'm dressing formally tomorrow.

If my Aunt ever finds a woman to make her wife, and all of the bridesmaid slots are filled, this is the dress I will wear to her wedding. Personally, I think a day of such monumental change in my state and country is a day for dressing up. I'm accustomed to dressing more formally then is seen as perfectly socially acceptable. And at times, I'm must admit that I'm a little wary about doing so, due the remarks that ALWAYS get tossed at me. But tomorrow I won't hear them.

It is definitely the right day for an Anthropologie dress!

Happy Election day, everyone!

My First Real Beret

This was given to me for free by Mary at the Valley of Roses Boutique. Her shop is in Seattle's University District. She is, no kidding you, the NICEST SHOP OWNER IN THE WORLD. My best friend and I go in there pretty regularly, I'd say about once a month at least, and we're all pretty good friends. Her store is one of the very best consignment stores that you'll ever find in this town.

It's a real French beret and it's Vintage! I love it. Thanks, Mary!!

I just wanted to take some time to say...

Macklemore makes me proud to be a Seattlite.

I know a lot of people don't agree with this but I think that the time has come to give all couples their rights!

Somethin' in the way

You know what's really great?

Having your camera break, and your laptop break, and being able to procure neither until the end of the summer! At least I'm here in time for Autumn...also known as the season where we all get to start wearing actual clothing again. Although I definitely think July would have entirely gone something like this:

"I'm wearing a tank top and booty shorts and I'm sweaty and dehydrated and really grumpy and want to die. WHERE IS AUTUMN."

This year I've grown a bit taller and a bit more plump, a side effect of turning into a woman I suppose, so I eventually had to say fare thee well to almost all the clothing I own. I'm not even half kidding. A girlfriend of mine threw a really nice clothing swap party and I gave away a few things there. I took the rest to a Goodwill in town. But now I've started filling up my closet again with wool skirts and sweaters and collared things in preparation for fall and I'm thinking of taking a nice long break from my wallet.

I'm a thrift shopper, so everything I buy is around like five dollars, bur I can't help but get a little guilty feeling. Especially after the last two weeks.

-- One Burnt Orange H&M Sweater, $4.99
-- One Burgundy Sweater, $2.99
-- One Light Brown Sweater Blazer, $6.99
-- One Long Red and Orange Skirt, $11.99
-- One Medium-Length Green Plaid Skirt, $4.99

Also, a new Rosalind Russell-esque blazer from H&M, new, for $49.99. But that is a piece that I've literally been looking for all year and actually stored up $70 for in March. I found one last year that was perfect in every way possible... and then I of course outgrew it.

For your viewing pleasure, my new blazer.

I like it because it a) has multiple buttons and b) has a pocket to store small flowers and kerchiefs in and c) can be worn with a pencil skirt in addition to pants because of it's short length.

Honestly, I think that when your blog starts becoming the place where you have to keep track of how much money you spend, even if it's only thrift shopping, you know you've got to take it easy. And after I buy a pair of pants for the school year (I'm down to a pair of work pants) I'll be set.

Unless, of course, a pumpkin-colored circle scarf pops up somewhere. I'll be on that shit like white on rice! I have a birthday coming up so if I find said scarf (or I'm running short on giant hoop earrings, or clogs, or satin underwear, or silly bands, or mustache graphic tees) I should be aces.
